DONOVAN CHIA is the Chief Commercial Officer within EFS Group, spearheading business development in the renewable energy and energy-efficiency portfolio. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Commerce from Monash University, Malaysia. Donovan started his career in PwC Malaysia since 2007. He brings forth more than 10 years of experience in corporate and debt restructuring, financial monitoring and business recovery with exposures to a wide range of clients in various industries such as property development, financial institution, manufacturing of industrial products, plantation and renewable energy.
Background
Over the course of his career, Donovan honed his experience and knowledge in structuring deals and devising strategies up to execution and implementation. Amongst his many successes were the rehabilitation of an abandoned mix development now known as Main Place Residence and Mall in USJ 21, Selangor and resolution of a shareholders’ dispute where both shareholders received an approximately total of RM80 million in dividends from disposal of assets and compensation from land acquisition.
Donovan’s main portfolio of interest was property development. However, a debt recovery for a local financial institution pursuant to a divestment of a biomass plant has spurred his interest and passion in the renewable energy sector. Combining the two portfolio of interests and his experience, Donovan views renewable energy as a thriving industry and a value-added component to real estate, and is eager to find new opportunities in executing and growing EFS’s renewable energy and energy-efficiency portfolio.
